Zev Friedman Tuesday, April 17

The program on April 17 will feature a performance by AYS Concerto Winner Zev Friedman, who will be performing Gordon Jacob's Concerto for Trombone. Zev is a senior at La Cueva High School, and has studied trombone for seven years with Tonya Akeley.

Zev is first chair trombone for La Cueva High School's Wind Ensemble and lead trombone for the Silver Blues Jazz Band, and was first chair trombone at this year's All-State Music Festival. He relishes being a member of the Big Bad Bear Marching Band. He is a member of La Cueva's Science Olympiad team and has won several first place awards at state competitions. He also participates in numerous math competitions as a La Cueva student and as a member of the New Mexico Math Team. He also participates in Tonya Akeley's Trombone Choir.

After high school, Zev will attend Texas Tech University with the aim of completing at least three majors: music, math and physics are his current choices, with engineering also a possibility.

AYS Summer Ball

The AYS Program is planning a summer ball! We'll have an orchestra for ballroom dancing, a sumptuous dinner, a silent auction and a performance by Le Chat Lunatique, featuring AYS Alumnus Muni Kulasinghe. More details will be forthcoming, but please mark your calendar now and plan to join us for a fun evening on Friday, August 17, 2007.

AJSO Student Chosen for Hey, Mozart! CD

Young composer's music will be performed by orchestra

Ian Kingsolver

Ian Kingsolver, violinist in the Albuquerque Junior Strings Orchestra, is one of 16 young composers whose original melodies have been chosen for orchestration and inclusion in the 2007 Hey, Mozart! CD recorded by the Hey, Mozart! Orchestra under the direction of David Felberg, music director.

The final, free concert for 2007 will be held on Friday, September 7, 2007 at the Journal Theater of the Roy E. Disney Center for the performing arts at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque. The concert will begin at 7 pm.

Last year some 400 people attended the concert and reception following in honor of the Hey, Mozart! composers. Please be sure to invite friends and family to this free concert and reception at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.
