TRAGEDY AND TRIUMPH with the Albuquerque Youth Symphony

The Albuquerque Youth Symphony, under the direction of Gabriel Gordon, continues its 53rd season with a concert of Romantic music that is alternately tragic and triumphant, including the Tragic Overture by Brahms and Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony. The concert will be held on Sunday, February 1 at 2:00 p.m. at Popejoy Hall. The concert will feature the second of three AYS Concerto winners. Nicole Pehrson will be the violin soloist in the first movement of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64. Nicole is a home-schooled senior, and studies privately with Kathie Jarrett. Nicole is the daughter of Chris and Christy Pehrson of Los Lunas. She plans to study the violin and music in college next year.
Tickets for the Albuquerque Youth Symphony are $10.00 general admission, and the proceeds benefit the orchestra's concert tour to Australia in June, 2009, including a concert at the Sydney Opera House. Tickets are being sold by members of the AYS, the UNM ticket office at the UNM Bookstore (505) 925-5858, the UNM Pit ticket office and select Albertsons Supermarkets. Tickets will also be available at the door prior to the concert.
Albuquerque Youth Orchestra Concert

The Albuquerque Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Sayra Siverson, will give a free concert at Albuquerque High School on Tuesday, February 3 at 7:00 p.m.
The concert will feature works by Mozart, Grainger, Smith, Grieg and Borodin.
Australia Tour
