Erin Sanzero AYS alumna, Erin Sanzero, was featured as soprano soloist at the June 18th premiere of Henry Mollicone's The Beatitudes: Mass for the Homeless. The performance raised funds and awareness for Barrett House, a shelter for homeless women and children in Albuquerque and included baritone soloist Edmund Connolly, virtuoso organist Justin Bischof, and Polyphony, Voices of New Mexico. The program also introduced a new organ concerto by Andrew Ager, one of Canada's most widely known composers.

Janice Lucero Janice Lucero (AYS Violin 1974) has been named the NM Small Business Person of the Year by the Small Business Administration for her business, MVD Express. Janice went to Washington DC to compete with the other 49 states for the SBA Small Business Person of the Year on May 20th. She was honored locally at a luncheon on June 2, 2011.

Gabe Sears Gabe Sears, AYS Tuba 2006 graduate of La Cueva High School, earned a music degree from ASU in December 2010, and will take perhaps the ultimate tuba trip this coming year - in the quintessential "oom-pah" land - on a Fulbright Scholarship. He leaves in August for a year-long stay in Hannover, Germany, to study tuba at the Hochschule fur Musik, Theater, und Medien Hannover (Hannover University of Music, Theater, and Media). There, Sears will study with Jens Bjorn-Larsen, a world famous tuba soloist and educator. Read the full article
