Albuquerque Youth Orchestra and Youth Symphony Give Winter Concerts
The Albuquerque Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Sayra Siverson, will give a free concert at Albuquerque High School on Tuesday, January 29 at 7:00 p.m.
The concert will feature two pieces by South Dakota composer Jeremy Hegg. Also on the program are works by Gabrieli, Suolahti, the Carmen Suite by Bizet and Mars, Bringer of War from "The Planets" by Holst.
The Albuquerque Youth Symphony, under the direction of Gabriel Gordon, will give a concert on Tuesday, February 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Popejoy Hall.
The concert will feature the second of three AYS Concerto winners. Haley Seybert will be the soloist in the Fantasie Hongroise for Flute and Orchestra by Franz Doppler.
Haley is a senior at Rio Rancho High School, and studies privately with Serena Ward. She is the President of her school's band council, and was a drum major with the marching band, under the direction of Kurt Schmidt. Haley is the daughter of Rhonda and Fred Seybert of Rio Rancho.
Also on the program are the works of Faure, the Russian Easter Overture by Rimsky-Korsakoff, and Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis for Double String Orchestra, which will use the combined AYO and AYS string sections and AYS Alumni in the solo quartet and orchestra II. Tickets for the Albuquerque Youth Symphony are $10.00 general admission. Tickets are being sold by members of the AYS or the UNM ticket office at 925-5858 and will be available at the door prior to the concert.
Haley Seybert is a senior at Rio Rancho High School. She would like to first and foremost thank her parents for their continuous support and contributions to her music. She would like to thank the following: Serena Ward, her private teacher of five years, for her coaching and ongoing consideration of her musical needs; her past and present band directors, Mr. Harper, Neil Bell, Kurt Schmidt and Brad Dubbs for giving her something to look forward to in school every day; Sayra Siverson and Amir Kats for bringing a new level of musical performance into her life; her grandmother, Totsie Slover, for giving Haley her first flute when she was six years old; AYS Alumnus Paul Kruchoski for introducing her to the AYS Program. Last, but not least, Haley would like to thank the rest of her friends and family for their support and appreciation of her music.
