Please note that there is a $5.00 audition fee, which students should bring to their audition. If there is financial hardship, please call the AYS Program office at 875-1319 for a fee waiver. Students will be auditioned on a prepared solo of their choice (no accompaniment), rhythmic sight-reading and major scales. Wind and brass students should pick a solo that displays both melodic and technical ability. Percussionists should perform in as many areas as possible, i.e., snare drum, timpani, and mallets. Following the auditions, students may be placed in the Prelude String Orchestra (grades 6 - 8), Albuquerque Junior Orchestra (grades 6 - 8) or the Albuquerque Junior Symphony (grades 7 - 9).
ELIGIBILITY
- All public, parochial, private and home school students within a 50-mile radius of Albuquerque are eligible.
- Students in grades 6 - 8 and 11 years old as of August 1, 2009 are eligible.
- Students must be enrolled as regular members of their school band or orchestra, if offered. Enrollment will be verified
- Students accepted into the PSO, AJO & AJS will be required to pay a tuition fee as established annually by the AYSP, Inc. Board of Directors. Need based financial aid is available.
- AJO/AJS Hummingbird Camp will be held August 7 & 8, 2009
- NOTE for 2009 - 2010 season: Prelude String Orchestra and Albuquerque Junior Orchestra will accept students in grades 6 - 8; the Albuquerque Junior Symphony will accept students in grades 7 - 9.
Students selected will be notified BY MAIL IN LATE MAY. AUDITIONS WILL NOT BE HELD AGAIN IN THE FALL
