Auditions are held once a year only each spring for the Albuquerque Youth Symphony (AYS - grades 9-12), Albuquerque Youth Orchestra (AYO - grades 9-12), Albuquerque Junior Symphony (AJS - grades 6-8) and the Albuquerque Junior Orchestra (AJO - grades 6-8).
The Albuquerque Junior Youth Band rehearses and performs in the SPRING SEMESTER ONLY. More info on auditions will be coming.
Any orchestral music student in the Albuquerque & the 50-mile radius surrounding areas may audition. Audition packets & excerpts are sent to all Albuquerque area band and orchestra school instructors in March and is also available on this website concurrently. Audition results will be posted on this website and sent to all orchestra and band instructors in May or after the years' tour(s) ends, whichever occurs last.
Each rehearsal and every concert is required of each student that is accepted into his or her respective program. The student's respective conductor must approve any deviations from this in advance or the student risks losing enrollment. In addition, there is a tuition requirement that is due before the student can begin rehearsals. Limited partial scholarships are available to students that qualify.

Concerto (soloist) auditions are available to any upcoming senior AYS students only and are held each spring after the main auditions have been completed. Three Concerto winners are picked for each year and perform their solos with the AYS orchestra at one of the main concerts of the year. Other performances may be required depending on the years' schedule. For more information on this audition please contact the AYSP office.
The Albuquerque Junior String Orchestra (AJSO - grades 3-5) does not hold auditions, but a letter of recommendation is required from the child's private instructor with the child being able to play at an appropriate level. Registration packets are sent to all school orchestra teachers as well as known private string teachers at beginning - to - mid - summer for the following fall school year and is also available on this website concurrently. There are NO spring registrations for this orchestra and tuition is required.
