JO THOUGHTS FROM YOUR CONDUCTORS

Hello JO Students and Parents,

We hope that this e-mail finds all of you in good health! We have really missed the students and are so sorry the year had to end with no concert. Students, it would have been an excellent concert, as you have improved by leaps and bounds from the beginning of the year. Congratulations!

We hope you are taking time out of your day to practice your instrument! Music is so important in our lives! We would ask you to play some of the first tunes you learned on the instrument to remind you of the progress you have made and follow up with some of the music you are playing now. Send us videos of you playing! We'll try to edit them together and make a cool recruitment video for future students and share it with you!

OR maybe you can compose your own music!!! We would love to hear your own music! OR OR send us a video of you discussing the postive impact that music has had on you!!!

Submit videos of your own home performances, photos of your compositions, etc... to this dropbox.

Separately, we would like to remind you of the upcoming AYS auditions that will be held in May. It is our wish that because of your progress this year, you audition and move to the next group.

If you are in 6th and 7th grade and play a string instrument, you are required to play a scale of your choice – any one and as many octaves you can do well. You will also be required to play a solo. Pick a solo that demonstrates your ability on your instrument. If you have any questions about the audition, If you need help in finding a solo, please let us know. If you need help with any part of your audition, let us know!

If you are an 8th grader, you will audition for the Youth Concert Orchestra (YCO) and the Youth Orchestra. (YO) The requirements for this audition are: prepared orchestra excerpts, a three octave scale and a solo of your choice. The excerpts can be found online (ayspmusic.org). If you look at the excerpts and they look too difficult for you, no problem You can still get in the YCO Just have a three octave scale prepared and a solo showing your capability on your instrument. If you need help with the music or have any questions, please contact us and we can work it out.

If you are a wind, brass or percussion player in the 6 th or 7 th grade, you are required to
play an etude, a scale, and a solo.

Do not hesitate to send us videos of the music you're working on, and we'll respond with thoughts and suggestions on how you can continue to improve.

Our hope during these crazy times is that you continue to perfect your craft and focus on the wonderful things that music brings to the world. Find inspiration and work to inspire others through music and know that we are all in this together.
