AYSP: Raffle: Experience New Mexico!

Dear AYSP Parents,

Thank you to those who attended the recent town hall meeting to discuss the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program.  As was discussed, tuition alone provides about 40% of the operating cost of our program.  Finding adequate resources to realize dreams and provide stability is an ongoing challenge of all non-profit organizations.

Last spring the Board made some difficult decisions to restructure the program to focus exclusively on the orchestras and junior band and significantly reduce administrative staff expenses.  The focus this year has been to reshape the administrative structure with a smaller staff, develop a more effective fundraising strategy that better considers return on investment, and look for additional cost savings.  And, the board has attempted to keep tuition increases to a minimum, maintain the integrity of the instructional program, provide tuition assistance where needed, and be sensitive of time commitments by students and families.

The Board and Executive Director felt that fundraising needed to be reshaped to better align with our mission and reduce the time commitment on staff and students.  For this spring, there are three planned fundraisers:

  • Chamber Music and Wine at Casa Rondeña Winery:  February 26 (sold out).
  • Symphonic Kitchen Progressive Dinner and Chamber Music at the AYSP facility:  April 9.  Limited to 200 guests.  (Details on our website, www.aysmusic.org)
  • Raffle focusing on New Mexico Arts and Entertainment packages called “Experience New Mexico!”

We will need your support for the Symphonic Kitchen event and more information will follow on that.  It is this third area where we request the involvement of all our families.  The generously donated raffle prizes include Season Passes to Cliff’s Amusement Park, Family Tickets to the Isotopes, New Mexico Philharmonic Concert Tickets with Nob Hill Dinner, An Evening with Bernadette Peters at Popejoy Hall with Nob Hill Dinner, Hot Air Balloon Ride for Two, and a Night at the Santa Fe Opera including Dinner, Backstage Tour, and Overnight Hotel.

We have set a target of each student and family selling 10 or more raffle tickets ($10 each) to raise $50,000 to support the organization.  The drawing will be held at the final AYO concert, Sunday April 30. The key to success is everyone doing their part to make this fundraiser successful.  Please look for more detailed information coming home with your student in March.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Executive Director Michael Sleeter at: michael@ays.org.  Thank you for your continued support of the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program!
