Calling all Performers! Video Submissions Needed for AYSP’s Virtual Playathon!
On Friday, October 30, from 4-7 pm MT, the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program will host its first-ever Virtual Playathon! This three-hour fundraising event will feature previously recorded performances by current and former AYSP students performing solo and chamber music works, as well as recently recorded AYSP ensembles performing onstage at Popejoy Hall.
While the Virtual Playathon will feature pre-recorded performances, the event itself will be a live event co-hosted by AYSP's new Music Director and Youth Symphony conductor, Dan Whisler, along with Classical 95.5 KHFM show hosts Brent Stevens and Alexis Corbin. Participating students will be eligible to win fun prizes for raising funds for AYSP by creating their own individual fundraising accounts, and audience members will be able to make tax-deductible donations to AYSP before, during, and after the program. AYSP hopes the Virtual Playathon will help to make up part of the budget deficit caused by COVID-19, which has financially affected AYSP and so many other nonprofit arts organizations the past few months.
We need to fill our three-hour event with great music – that’s where YOU come in!If you have a polished, performance-ready piece of music that AYSP can feature in our Virtual Playathon, we’d love to have a video recording of it so that we can include it in the program on October 30.The music can be:
·- Solo work (with accompaniment, unless the piece is an unaccompanied composition)
·- Chamber music work (if you have an already-formed group with friends or family members)
·- Any genre (i.e., does not have to be classical music)
In addition to uploading your video, please send an email to Mr. Whisler (email@example.com) containing the following information:
·AYSP ensemble in which student participates
·Name and composer of the piece performed
All videos will be reviewed by AYSP staff for quality and suitability and, if approved, will be included in the Virtual Playathon.
For your video performance recording, please select a room and a background that will not be distracting to those viewing the video – we want to concentrate on the music! Dress neatly and put your best self forward.Attached to this email are some specific tips and recommendations for recording your performance, if you are new to video recording.
If performing is not your thing right now, no worries! There are other ways our current AYSP students can participate in the Virtual Playathon to make it a success! In the next couple of weeks, we’ll provide information about how you can create your own fundraising website page so that friends and family can support you and AYSP.You might also consider recording a brief video testimonial about how much you love AYSP and what it means to you.We would love to hear from you and share your excitement about AYSP with all of our community!
We rely on donations from generous individuals and businesses like you to provide symphonic performance experiences to Albuquerque’s talented young musicians and access to music education for students in need.
