Dear YO Students, By now I'm sure all of you have heard the news about Aurra Gardener. We are all profoundly saddened and this is a very difficult time. Mrs. Siverson is sending out some information regarding a memorial service which will be next Tuesday March 21 and Mrs. Striegel, Aurra's Orchestra Director, has asked that we invite students to play at that service. If you are interested please see the contact information in Mrs. Siverson's note. Unfortunately, I will be out of town until next Thursday night so I will not be able to attend. On our first Monday back, March 27, we will be taking some time at the beginning of rehearsal to let some of Aurra's El Dorado friends speak and also members of the YO cello section. We are asking that YO cello students bring flowers to put on Aurra's chair for that evening and we will also ask for flowers on our final concert. In honor of Aurra, her chair will remain empty for the rest of our season. Mr. Hill and the AYSP Alumni Association in partnership with Central Coast Music Academy (CCMA) is setting up a memorial scholarship fund. In lieu of flowers, we are asking the rest of our YO family to donate to that fund. The scholarship will be awarded to an AYSP High School Cellist (YS, YO, YCO. Central Coast Music Academy is a 501 (c) 3 non profit, of which I am president/CEO. Receipts will be available for cash or check donation. Checks will need to be made payable to CCMA. (In the memo line write Aurra Gardener Memorial Scholarship) I wish I could be there for Aurra's memorial service on Tuesday but my thoughts and prayers will be with you and Aurra's family. We really need each other at times like this so please reach out if you need to talk with someone. I will see you on 3.27 Mrs. Hill
We rely on donations from generous individuals and businesses like you to provide symphonic performance experiences to Albuquerque’s talented young musicians and access to music education for students in need.
