JO Parents: It was amazing how well the students sight read our new music on Saturday! They have improved so much in one semester! They have more confidence! We are excited about our new music and hope your students are as well. This program provides a selection of music by contemporary composers as well as by old masters.
This semester’s program is as follows:
1 – Firework Music by Handel
2 – Slavonic Music by Del Borgo
3 – Contabile by Art Sheinberg
4 – English Fugue by William Selby
5 – March to the Scaffold from “Symphony Fantastic” by Berlioz
6 – William Tell Overture by Rossini
JO Students: It was a pleasure to see all of you! We hope you all had a wonderful Holiday. We are so anxious to start working with you on your new music!
We will have sectionals this Saturday, January 23rd. This semester, the sectionals will be at the beginning of the rehearsal. Strings will go to the individual section rooms that we had first semester. Sectionals will be from 9:00 to 10:15. Please get to rehearsal early to allow enough time to get to your sectional room. Woodwinds, Brass, and Percussion will be in our rehearsal hall as usual.
For this Saturday’s sectional, please prepare the William Tell Overture. Winds, Brass, and Percussion: all eighth notes should be played with lots of energy and short. Strings: the entire piece should be played at the balance part of the bow –off the string. Start very slowly and work with the metronome. Be very precise with all rhythms.
See you Saturday!
