First of all, I wanted to say how impressed I was with everyone's performance yesterday! I had a fantastic time getting to meet all of you and based on the quality of our first rehearsal, I am confident we are going to have a phenomenal season. Since this is our first set of Rehearsal Notes there is going to be quite a bit of information to communicate but it is all important so please make sure to read carefully!
First of all, here is a list of all of our pieces and links to recordings of our music. As always, the more you are familiar with how the music sounds, the easier it will be to learn it. Also, if you can get to a point where you can play along with the recordings then you know you're at an excellent preparation level.
Remember that next week we will spend the first hour in sectionals. I would recommend showing up a bit early so you can have enough time to sign in, find your sectional room, and get set-up to start promptly at 6:15.
I will instruct the sectional teachers to look at the following pieces. Please make sure you have looked and at and practiced this music before sectionals on Friday so we can make sure we get as much done as possible:
m.1 - 40 This piece has some trickier rhythms so make sure to practice carefully and slowly. Don't try to go at tempo right away. Notice that we are in the key of Eb but there are a number of accidentals throughout. Referencing a fingering chart is always a good idea!
Based on what we went over on Wednesday, you should be able to make your way through the whole picece. Again, the rhythms are rather repetetivie, but make sure to pay close attention to your key! Try to be prepared to work throught the entire piece.
Percussion: It is my goal that none of you play the same instrument for any two pieces. What I would like you to do is take a close look at all of the parts for all of the pieces and make a "wish list" of which parts you would prefer to play for which pieces. When we do part assignments we'll take into consideration your strengths as well as your preferences! Mr. Kramer will work on part assignments with you during sectionals on Wednesday.
As always, feel encouraged to work through more than what've I've listed above. Looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday!
We rely on donations from generous individuals and businesses like you to provide symphonic performance experiences to Albuquerque’s talented young musicians and access to music education for students in need.
