From our sectionals today:
Strings – in the “Chaconne and March”, be sure to practice the 3/2 measures at half note = 70 and be sure to use a metronome! At measure 33, use longer bows for the quarter notes and half notes and little bow for the 8th notes. Be sure to observe the dynamic changes at measures 36 and 37. Violins, be sure to give measures 49-61 considerable attention. Cellos, be sure to give measures 61-73 considerable attention. Finally, practice the notes and rhythms of the March half of the piece.
Woodwinds – take a close look at the 8th note passages of “Chaconne and March”! Be sure to practice the notes and rhythms of the March half of the piece.
Brass – be sure to play with a full and sustained style in the beginning “Chaconne and March” up to the Grandioso! Also, practice the notes and rhythms of the March half of the piece.
Percussion – be sure to practice the “Sword Dance” at quarter note = 112. Work to clarify the rhythms and counting of the “Chaconne and March”. And finally, practice the notes and rhythms of the March half of the piece.
