JS - Rehearsal Notes (9-12-15)

JS Students and Parents,

Greetings, Orchestra. We had a great full rehearsal together, and it seems like your sectionals went very well! Please remember to treat your sectional coaches with great respect, but also soak up every bit of musical knowledge you can while with them! They're great, and we hope you leave the next sectional on Sept. 26 inspired and ready to take another step forward in our playing.

NOTES:
"Celebration!": M. 43-End MUST sound even stronger than the beginning; right now, our group's performance of the "big finish" is kinda the opposite... Practice this many, many times.

"The Great Locomotive Chase": Work all the details in your individual parts: accents, slurs, an HUGE dynamic contrast.

"Hava Nagila": Listen to several versions of this on YouTube this week. Good performers are Harry Belafonte (yup, the Calypso singer!), Daniel Hoffman (fiddle) and Giora Fiedman (klezmer clarinet). Know the tune and their performances and you'll be able to recognize your parts, even when written in cut-time!

See you Saturday! --Mr. Armerding and Mr. Corbin
