First of all, I want to apologize for the timing of this message. I know that this is a very busy week for our students and our families, and while operations for the most part have not been affected, I did want to make you aware of a change we've had to make at the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program.
Last week, after lengthy and extensive consultation with our Board of Directors, we eliminated the position of our Volunteer and Program Coordinator, Katherine Myers. As many of you are aware, the program has been working very hard to create a sustainable program that can continue to serve young musicians in our community. This has required us to make some very difficult decisions about our programs and our staff.
I know Katherine was a friend to all of you. Her passion for this program was inspiring, and her commitment to ensuring every AYSP student had an experience that was as much fun as it was educational is admirable. However, the AYSP unfortunately does not have the ability to sustain the position which Katherine held any longer.
I want to thank Katherine for all she has done for AYSP, and I know you all join me in sharing that sentiment.
While program administration won't be as easy going forward, I'm reassured by the fact that we have so many incredible parents who are always willing to lend a hand, and we'll need your help more than ever.
Please know that there are many people -- our conductors, our staff, our volunteers, and our Board of Directors -- who are working around the clock to make sure this program continues to be successful for your children, and I know that some of our best days are still ahead of us.
Thank you for all the support you've shown our program this year. Your children have been up to some amazing things this semester, and I can't wait for you to see all their efforts come to fruition this weekend.
We rely on donations from generous individuals and businesses like you to provide symphonic performance experiences to Albuquerque’s talented young musicians and access to music education for students in need.
