JO - Rehearsal Notes (10-27-18)

JO Students and Parents:

  • Today’s rehearsal revealed parts of our music which need attention!
  • While this is normal for after the Fall Break, our hope is that next rehearsal  will bring a higher level of expertise on each piece.
  • Students, be sure to practice the excerpts you noted today!
  • Between JO rehearsals, each member should be practicing his or her JO music at least four times for at least 20 minutes per time. If at all possible, practice with a metronome!

Here are the recommended practice tempos (for now):

Freedom Finale                Majestic: mm=88, Slightly faster: mm=96

Surprise Symphony         Andante: mm=92, measure 41: mm=88, measure 63: mm=92

Barber of Seville               Allegro vivo: mm=136, Coda: mm=144

Finale                                mm=120

Polar Express                    Beginning: mm=108

                                           Measure 25: mm=78

                                           Measure 51: mm=144

                                           Measure 84: mm=108

                                           Measure 120: mm=88

                                           Measure 135: mm=136

At our next rehearsal, we will have violin sectionals at the beginning of the rehearsal like we did today. Your practice priorities should be the excerpts you noted today.

Strings: be aware of the placement (and speed) of your bow!

Thank you in advance for arriving at the AYS Building by 8:45

Be sure to have your instrument, music, pencil, and a tuner (if you own one).
