Fall Break! We made it, and I hope everyone is enjoying some balloons (did you see the AYS balloon?!), some rest, folding your remaining luminaria bags (due Oct. 19) and especially LOTS and LOTS of time to PRACTICE!
Five rehearsals.... could be counted on one hand even! We have FIVE rehearsals left before our tour performance on Thursday, Dec. 5. There will be lots of details about the Dec. 5 performance later, but let's talk rehearsals first.
Please use this break to finalize any and all passages of music which have yet to be brought up to tempo, to be checked carefully with a tuner, and need multiple runs to solidify everything we've been working on together in rehearsal.
SOLOISTS, and anyone with a part marked Solo/Soli: Please make sure you have these passages nearly memorized. Your musical leadership in that moment will be critical, and you'll need to make sure you can align your rhythm with everything around you. Make sure you play the notated rhythms perfectly, and after that we can add any musical push-pull if needed.... but start with exactly the right rhythm.
Dynamics are better, but do we want to settle for "okay" or should we really push ourselves for GREAT? I say let's be great. Please practice them, and especially the orchestra favorite, "soft".
See you on Oct. 19 and be ready!
Luminaria Bags Due Oct. 19!
PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY NEXT SATURDAY. We need you to get your bags turned in out in the lobby and you in your seat in the rehearsal hall on time. Please finish up your bag folding this week and bring them with you to rehearsal. And remember that, while probably not the most fun that can be had with down time, what you are doing with these luminarias is so important to the success of our program. We appreciate all the hard work students and families put into this, and every luminaria I see during the holiday season reminds me of how special our opportunity to make music together really is.... THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Ms. Brasher and Mr. Corbin
