We worked hard again. This time on Streets of Thunder mostly. Students have been so good to collect the initials of their private teachers and Haneen and Anna are giving out lots of stars!
RS p2 no 5
Rhythm Sheet page 2 number 5. We are working on the BOWINGS on this deceptively simple exercise. There are TWO UP BOWS in a row between the 2nd and 3rd notes. They need to know what to do!
Streets of Thunder measures 1 - 37 They need to sound like bulls! Not bulldogs, and definitely not poodles! But has to be musical and within the framework of reason!
We worked a lot on accents. There are some measures with one accent on the first beat, and some with accents on beats one and three. They are not the same
The bowings are really mixed in this upper level piece, a skill that is not utilized in simpler music. Make sure they know when to start up bow. We put in lots of markings for bowings
The introduction is tricky with a 'hold' in measure 4 that will last about 6 beats, not the usual 4
RS 54 to the end
Rock-a-my-Soul from measure 54 to the end
Well, just barely. we got behind, as usual, but got to try a little of the end including tremolo for the 2nd to last measure for the upper strings
And the thirds/viola get to play a low 2 on the G in this passage but we really didn't get very far. So it's okay to just skim by this part and we'll pick up on it next week.
PICTURES TAKEN WEDNESDAY MARCH 6. EACH STUDENT GO T SENT HOME A FLYER. I HOPE THEY GET IT TO YOU!!!
What a fine group of young musicians!
PS. WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR A VENUE FOR OUR APRIL 25TH TOUR. WE HAVE BEEN INVITED TO HOLY CHILD SCHOOL FOR A RETURN ENGAGEMENT FROM TWO YEARS AGO, WHICH WOULD BE FINE, BUT IF ONE OF YOU HAS A FRIEND OR RELATIVE IN AN ASSISTED LIVING SITUATION WITH ENOUGH SPACE WE WOULD LOVE TO SHARE WITH THEM. V
We rely on donations from generous individuals and businesses like you to provide symphonic performance experiences to Albuquerque’s talented young musicians and access to music education for students in need.
