This weekend is the Jackie McGehee Young Artists Competition (JMYAC) in which 24 young New Mexico musicians compete for $7,500! Several of our current AYSP musicians will be competing for prizes and there are multiple free events surrounding the competition. All AYSP musicians and families are invited to attend!
Bright and early Saturday morning, February 16 at 8:45AM – 12:15PM*, join us in the Recital Hall of Robertson & Sons Violin Shop at 3201 Carlisle Blvd Blvd NE for the String portion of the Competition with 19 of the best young musicians in New Mexico playing Bruch to Mozart to Von Weber.
The Piano section of the competition will begin at 12:45PM* with five talented young musicians bringing you the concertos of Bach to Rachmaninoff.
The Award Ceremony will follow at 2:15PM* Winners in each category will receive cash awards and performance opportunities with the NM Philharmonic.
Later that afternoon, check out the Young Musician Symposium with Dr. Pasha Sabouri (JMYAC string judge) and Mr. Chad Peevy as they present all the things young musicians need to know – how to write a musician resume, how to pay for college without breaking the bank…and more. This event will be very informative and incredibly useful for those considering pursuing a career in the arts.
Then, FINISH THE WEEKEND for you PIANO lovers – on Sunday at 1:00PM. Albuquerque native and AYSP alum, Elias-Axel Pettersson, Pianist and Jessica Yam (both JMYAC piano judges) will captivate us with a Lecture Recital presenting Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 in C Major, K. 467, at the NM School of Music, 136 Washington St. SE, Suite J.
We rely on donations from generous individuals and businesses like you to provide symphonic performance experiences to Albuquerque’s talented young musicians and access to music education for students in need.
