Lots of improvement last time in our hour together. We still have a ways to go, but hopefully sectionals will greatly assist you in your journey. A reminder that the sectional coaches are there for you, so make sure and take full advantage of your time with them – work the hardest spots, ask the toughest questions and listen to those around you! The goal is to function perfectly fine as a section without a conductor.
Continuing on from last time, during our four sectional weeks (8/23; 8/30; 9/13; 9/27) I’ve divided our pieces into four fairly-equal sections, so everything gets a bit of work in the hour we share together.
Here the schedule for next time and what I plan to work on (and likewise what you should prioritize for this rehearsal):
Monday August 30 (9 rehearsals left before dress rehearsal/concert)
6:15-6:30 MR Hall
Warmup (on your own)
Possibility Assignment (discussion)
6:30-7:30 MR Hall
Enescu – Rehearsal 11-22
Smetana – Letter C-F
Elgar – Rehearsal 6-10
Alwyn – Letter D-F
7:30-7:45 Break (Lobby/Office – clear out of MR Hall for air exchanges)
Strings – respective labeled sectional rooms (basses in vestibule area)
Harp – practice room (bass room now)
Woodwinds – MR Hall
Brass – Pink room
Percussion – Green room
The above sections (it’s a lot to get through in an hour!) and anything technical or challenging – coaches will have a list of priorities, but feel free and add your own!
Make eye contact fearlessly and with love.
We rely on donations from generous individuals and businesses like you to provide symphonic performance experiences to Albuquerque’s talented young musicians and access to music education for students in need.
